Sport Premium

Here at Monksmead School we use the Sport Premium Funding  to meet the following objectives:

  • To increase the level of physical activity for our children at Monksmead.
  • To create opportunities for as many of our children as possible to participate in sporting activities.
  • To become more successful when competing.

We are proud of what we achieved with our Sports Premium funding. Here are some of the sporting activities we delivered and competed in during the 2015/16 academic year…

Football, Netball, Cricket, Badminton, Bollywood Dancing, Gymnastics, Swimming, Indoor Sportshall Athletics, Athletics.

Other sporting activities this year included-

  • Visit and workout routine delivered by Nathan Fox, Team GB Olympic triple jumper.
  • Introduction of ‘Maths of the Day’ active maths initiative in Years 1-6.
  • Skip2BFit skipping workshop and purchase of skipping ropes for all classes to be used at break and lunch times.
  • Race for Life fundraising event.
  • Annual Sport’s Day.

This hard work has resulted in the following…

  • Our school has now been awarded Bronze status from the School Games Mark website to go alongside our Active Schools’ Award.

We will strive to take the next steps in 2016/17 and we plan to use the Sports Premium Funding in the following ways…

  • Introduction of ‘Fitter Future’ exercise programme including a morning workout regime and access for all pupils to workouts at home.
  • Continuing to develop and monitor the quality of P.E lessons. This will aim to ensure that P.E. lessons are judged as at least ‘good’ by external monitoring.
  • To carry on developing a passion for sport and physical activity at Monksmead.
  • To become even more successful when competing.

Objectives in spending SPG:

Raising Attainment and achievement of pupils to at least expected progress through:

i)              Ensuring all pupils have access to high quality teaching of PE

ii)             Providing exciting and stimulating opportunities (extra- curricular) for those eligible for pupil premium

iii)            Ensuring all children have an understanding of, and aspire to lead healthy lifestyles

iv)           Offering a range of extra-curricular activities that promote physical activity and are accessible to all

  • Subscription to 'Maths of the Day'  - an online resource program                                     £595.00

            for use within primary schools, which uses PE and Active Learning

             as a vehicle to raise attainment in mathematics.
